Chicago Bike Show
Navy Pier hosted the 15th Annual Chicago Bike Show & Family Fitness Expo last weekend. Set up in one of the cavernous halls, the show had an indoor bike valet, an area for kids to check out new bikes, and extreme stunt shows. There were also, of course, sales on bikes and equipment, but that's just mean to talk about if you didn't get a chance to go.Considering the nature of The Local Tourist, I was mainly interested in the various cycling organizations and events available in the Chicagoland area so I could let you know about them. (The events in the city have also been added to the events calendar.) The show's website has a clickable list of exhibitors, and below are some of my personal highlights.
May 21, Walk & Roll Chicago
May 28, Bike The Drive
June 2 - 4, Lake Tour Bike Trek
July 16, 18th Annual L.A.T.E. Ride
Sep 2 - 3, Rolling On The River
Team In Training: cycling to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Bike and Roll: guided bike tours
Grand Illinois Trail: 500 miles of trails through northern Illinois
Chicagoland Bicycle Federation: Organization promoting bicycling in the Chicago area
If you work in the city and wish you could ride your bike to work but are worried about stinking up the office, don't worry. The Millennium Park Bicycle Station, located at Columbus & Randolph, offers access to showers and lockers. The parking is free, and daily passes to use the showers and lockers are $1/day. It's a minimum 10 day purchase, but a month is only $15.
