"I was delighted to discover The Local Tourist, as a one-time summer resident of Chicago who returns annually to visit. It's a great city, with so much personality, but it's not always easy to quickly reacquaint myself. Things change, things happen - and thelocaltourist.com is a wonderful way to pick up where I left off last visit. Thanks!" Ellen Wallace, Journalist, Switzerland

As anyone knows who's trekked up and down the Magnificent Mile, Oak Street, or State Street, shopping can be exhausting! Renew and re-energize by taking some time to relax.

Earl Grey, hot   Relax with afternoon tea and scones in the comfortable atmosphere of the Drake Hotel, 140 E Walton. The Palm Court features a fountain and live background music. You can also enjoy tea at the Intercontinental, 505 N Michigan, from 2 to 5pm. Check out our list to find more.

Pamper yourself   Treat those weary muscles to a massage, those winter-worn hands to a manicure, and those tired tresses to a new do by visiting one of the many, many spas in downtown Chicago.

Shaken, not stirred   Kick back with a martini, a glass of bubbly, or a cocktail at the Signature Lounge in the Hancock Building. The hustle and bustle of Michigan Avenue is far removed when you're 95 stories up. If you prefer a drink at a lower altitude, there are several bars to choose from.

Refresh Your Spirit  Visit a church or synagogue. Even if you don't attend a service, stepping inside those quiet halls can help you renew your sense of peace. You can also relax in the courtyard of Fourth Presbyterian right off Michigan Avenue.

Talk to the Animals   Lincoln Park Zoo is open 365 days a year and is free. After that, head up to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum and the Butterfly Haven. Free-flying butterflies surround you in the 28-foot greenhouse.

And of course, be sure to check the events calendar and sign up for the free newsletter to keep up on all the other things you can do to take care of you!
