Did you know Chicago's the chocolate capital of the US? Do you know how long it's been around and where it originated? What about the fact that it's actually good for you (which any smart cookie already knows)?

I learned all of that and more on a Chicago Chocolate Tour. My son was celebrating his one year anniversary with his girlfriend and I figured it would be a good way to help them celebrate. We met up at the 900 Shops and Krista led us on a tasting, architectural, and historical journey through the top end of the Magnificent Mile. A group of fiesty (read: fun!) women from the surrounding suburbs were with us as we started off with a sample of white chocolate infused with rose essence and then traipsed around the Gold Coast. While my 16 year old football player could have used some more samples, the rest of us were pretty happy. My personal favorite? The champagne truffle from Teuchser that was made with Dom Perignon (but of course!).

We took the Gold Coast public tour. They also offer South Loop, Loop, Lincoln Park, and Lakeview. Public tours are $40 and private tours are $50.
