From the band:

Singer/songwriter and founder of Blue Oak Blues, Emily Hurd is no stranger to the music business. The Rockford, Illinois native now lives in Chicago, playing her alt-blues music at a steady line-up of gigs in the Midwest. Playing solo or with a band, Emily's music has taken on its own style. Her country and soul background and influences continue to come blaring through her heart-felt, universal lyrics and wailing melodies.

The songstress began playing the piano at age 7 and continues to home in on the honky-tonk, old-world sound that shaped her youth. Her biggest influences hold steady as Kris Kristofferson, Hoagie Carmichael, Django Reinhardt, Etta James, and Scott Joplin. Currently, Big Bill Broonzy has captured her fancy.

She recently finished her fourth record "Love In Flats," which is available on CD Baby where you can also buy two of her previous cds, "Potent One" and "The Barefoot Session." The songs on these cds come to life with the addition of players Adam Markunas, Pierce Doerr, Jimmy Tomasello, Gregg Ostrom, Eric Delli Bovi, Michael Schenkelberg, Steve Doyle, Jillian Hicks, and Scott Ligon.

Emily is a rare artist who composes and performs with an equal talent—and an equal passion. Her personal songbook regularly packs in the new material, to the delight of fans as she introduces new songs at virtually every show. Aside from her own composing and performing, Emily works as an events coordinator, planning and keeping on top of shows in varied arenas of artistic excellence.
