TLT's Featured Bands
Peter Terry
In honor of Earth Hour this Saturday I decided to feature an acoustic band. It was a bonus that I came across Peter Terry, because now I get to honor my home state as well.
Athens
Spring is officially here! The sun's shining, birds are singing, and those long-dormant bulbs are peeking out of the cold earth. Athens is the perfect band to welcome the new season with the silliness and gaeity it deserves. Read more »
Raise High The Roof Beam
The first line of "The Adventures of Hamza" is "If I can't afford to pay my rent..." That's something that many of us can relate to, and that statement could evoke chords of desperation and notes of discontent. Instead, Raise High The Roof Beam has given them a backdrop that makes me want to do a dance that would make the beach movie crowd proud. There's an energy and exuberance and it's just plain fun. I Fight Dragons
Superheroes. Nintendo. Music. With that trifecta a band can't go wrong, right? I Fight Dragons proves that theory. This Chicago band wears superhero t-shirts & makes music from Nintendo systems. It could be pretty hokey, but the music is actually good. Really good. Listen to the first single from their debut EP "Cool Is Just A Number." Then check them out this Saturday online at www.sleepover20.com.
Dylan Lloyd
To hear Dylan Lloyd you'd have no idea he's a kid from the south side. He sings with a maturity that belies his age, but he's been doing that since he was 15 years old. That's when he was the lead singer and pianist of popular south side band Pangea. Now he's solo and looking to mature even more.
You can see him live at Uncommon Ground (Clark Street) on March 11, and we'll have an interview up with the young talent in the next few days.
Goodbye Home
Goodbye Home is a combination and conglomeration of musicians, and just like their backgrounds represent different histories and stories, so their music encompasses several genres. Read more »
Root Cause
Root Cause is an acoustic rock band fronted by a heavy metal singer with tatoos. When you hear him in this band, you might be surprised that Maximus Riske is the same guy who belts out the vocals for Khaos Theory. He and Rick Drehobl, Lawrence Horvath, Rick Flores, and Brian Mickey recorded "Let It Rain" in Chicago Acoustic Underground's Lincoln Park studio. It's a relaxing, comfortable tune. Read more »
John Wasem Band
Wow, it's bitter cold out there. So stay inside, grab a cup o' joe, and listen to the John Wasem Band. As they say:
"In the current musical climate of cut and packaged entertainers designed for quick consumption, the John Wasem Band is like a welcoming home-cooked meal spread across a Southern table." Read more »
Cobalt & The Hired Guns
I saw Cobalt & the Hired Guns at the Chicago Bluegrass & Blues Festival, and they were both a crowd and a personal favorite. They were just having so much fun it was infectious. Not only is their music good for the heart and soul, it's good for the environment.
